Rhizomes
Résidence artistique
Rhizomes est une collaboration entre le danseur-chorégraphe français Thierry Thieû Niang et l’artiste plasticienne new-yorkaise Roxane Revon. Le projet combine danse et installations, travaillant avec des matériaux physiques et des gestes liés aux systèmes racinaires, aux graines et à la croissance.
Présenté sous forme d’une série d’ateliers étalés sur deux à trois semaines, les deux artistes travailleront avec un groupe de participants pour créer une performance accompagnée d’une scénographie originale. Les ateliers sont adaptables à tous les âges.
Les rhizomes sont des tiges de plantes souterraines qui poussent horizontalement, capables de nourrir d’autres plantes. Tout comme ces systèmes végétaux complexes, les humains connaissent une transformation personnelle et sont interconnectés de manière complexe.
This workshop series is developed and taught by dancer-choreographer Thierry Thieû Niang and visual artist Roxane Revon. Over two weeks, the artists and educators will work with preschool participants on creating movement and artwork inspired by plant life. Rhizomes combines dance and visual arts, working with physical materials and gestures related to root systems, seeds, and growth. Participants develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and community collaboration.
In September 2024, Roxane Revon and Thierry Thieû Niang lead in-school workshops at the Language & Laughter Studio (LLS) in Brooklyn. In April 2025, Rhizomes returns for a second two-week series at LLS, as well as a two-week session at L’Alliance New York’s Manhattan Preschool.
